I’m finally sitting down with Cher Rue. This is a long time in the making. I am glad we are finally able to get together and chat. We met in the summer of 2005. We have had some time to get to know each other over the years. I just have some questions.
DD: What was your childhood like? Were you always a big girl?
Cher: I was adopted, I had a good childhood, my parents did travel a lot so I was home alone with housekeepers, I was bored and I ate. I have been a big girls since I was 8.
DD: How did you overcome the obstacles we all face about our self image?
Cher: I have overcome all obstacles one day at a time, with patience, getting outside advice then deciding what is the best for me. It is really trial and error, I stay away from negative people and negative energy, I love nice people and want to surround myself with kind loving friends.
DD: What motivated you to become so passionate about the BBW Community?
Cher: I grew up not really thinking there were others like me. I hung out with skinny people and I was always the big girl. I was ok with it, but when I found others who were having the same feelings and obstacles as me, it was very refreshing and comforting. I decided to help others with confidence and to help them see the true beauty inside and feel good about what ever size they were.
DD: Did you ever imagined seeing yourself doing all the things you have done, and keep doing?
Cher: I never imagined I would do the things I have, it all came so easy and flowed. I just meditate, watch others and ideas pop into my head. I am creative and these ideas come from a higher source which I am very blessed to have.
DD: How do you see yourself today?
Cher: I see myself today as a kind, caring person who always thinks one step ahead about others. I am motivated to help the plus size community to be accepted for who they are and not what size we are.
DD: What inspires you and keeps you motivated?
Cher: I am inspired by others, when I see someone who's life I have touched in a small way, a smile, or that I helped inspire someone that makes me happy and gets me so I want to just keep doing more!
DD: What is in store for Cher in the near and distant future!
Cher: I am working on a few projects, a TV Show, commercials and movies. I also do a Red Carpet charity event every Christmas for animals or children.
As I am about to wrap this up. I want to first of all say how much I appreciate your honesty and cantor. I just have one last question for you.
DD: What do you want to say to the young girls out there that are not quite confident in who they are or aren’t very sure of themselves?
Cher: I want to say to young girls, be who you are, show the world the beautiful person on the inside and it will shine through, try to exercise if you can, you will feel better, do it for health not how you look, and try not to worry about what others say and do, you are here for your lessons and not others.

BBW Cruise
I had an opportunity to talk to the Owner and Director of the BBW Cruise. I have always been interested in taking that cruise. Yet, like so many other people. I thought the cost was way beyond my budget. Not knowing what to expect, going alone. It has really held me back from having the time of my life.
I wanted to get to know more about what was going on. So I sat down with Jean and asked her some questions. Here’s what I found out.
DD: How long has the cruise been going on?
Jean: For 7 years now.
DD: What do you want people to know about the BBW Cruise?
Jean: It’s a place to feel accepted and comfortable, no matter who you are or what size you are. There is so much to do on the cruise ship it’s self. There are excursions that are size friendly also. The excursions are optional, just in case you want to stay on the ship, or get off in the ports and see the sights. Plus, if you need something special, or have special needs? Just let someone know and it will be provided. Aside from all the ships activities (too many to list), we have our own parties, It is just like the Las Vegas atmosphere. The difference? We don’t stay in once place, we are a floating part going from port to port.
DD: What is the average number of people that attend?
Jean: It’s a small number, only about 100 people. Compared to other events around the country. This way, its more intimate so we all can get to know each other and no one is felt left out. It is like a family type atmosphere. I personally take the time to talk with every person that comes on the cruise. I feel it’s important to get to know the people. See if there’s anything I can help with to make the cruise that much better.
DD: Where are you based out of?
Jean: Even though I live in Chicago the
Cruises leave from different ports. We have left from Ft. Lauderdale, Tampa, Miami, San Juan. .
DD: What are the age ranges that attend the cruise?
Jean: Anywhere from the age of 21 to 70+. No matter the age, everyone has a great time. It’s a great way to meet people, and to form long lasting friendships. I am sure you will find something in common with at least a few people.
DD: What type of people go on this cruise?
Jean: Mostly single females, as well as single guys. There are couples that come too. Yes, of course there are a good mixture of people.
DD: Where do you see yourself taking the BBW Cruise for future events?
Jean:When traveling in a group, its always so much more exciting. Now think about a bbw/bhm group! We are stronger in numbers. There is no reason why we shouldn’t or can’t vacation just like everyone else. I want the whole world to know about us. BBWCRUISE.COM should be taking the nation by storm! I have so much passion for my bbwcruise and it only can go up from here.
DD: How many times a year is this cruise offered?
Jean: Up until now,it was only once a year. Yet, we are expanding and we are going to twice a year. The first one is on Sept 11thd, and the second is our Halloween Cruise.
DD: How soon or how late can I register for a cruise.
Jean: You can register any time before the cruise. If money is an issue? You can place your confirmation with a deposit as little as $25.00. We can wo rk with you on the payments.
DD: What if I’m single, this is my first time and I don’t have any one to go with?
Jean: That’s fine. I will find you a traveling partner. The last thing I would want is for some one to be or feel left out. I want you to make the most out of your experience, and have it be as positive as possible.
DD: What do you want people to know about Jean?
Jean: I am the owner of BBW Cruise. I take it very seriously. Its my passion, and I love what I do! I have always been big girl even as a child. No one else in my family was or is big now. The great thing is they don’t see me for my size. They just see me as Jean. My family has sailed with us before on the BBW Cruise. My parents and family are wonderful supporters of what I am doing and what I am trying to do.
